Porn and Online Safeguarding Education Implementation Toolkit

To assist with deeper level leadership discussions and whole-of-organisation changes, we have developed two Toolkits. The first one focuses on the successful implementation of Porn and Online Safety Education. The second Toolkit addresses safeguarding measures related to the prevention of online and physical environment harms.

___________

Porn & Online Safeguarding Education (POSE) supports children and young people to build critical literacy skills to minimise porn and other online or contact harms, equipping them for wellbeing. This education includes age-sensitive information to inform safe, respectful, trusting, consenting, and equal relationships. Youth Wellbeing Project presentations and IQ PROGRAMS work within the Porn & Online Safeguarding Education Framework.

Successful implementation of Porn & Online Safeguarding Education requires a whole-of-organisation, inclusive, age-appropriate strategy. To effectively support children, young people, and responsible adults during the program, planning includes professional integration, training, and support before rollout and ongoing. A proactive organisation will value and prioritise the child’s right to feel safe online and in physical environments.

Our toolkit supports organisations to successfully review and implement tools, strategies, or programs designed to protect children and young people, including Youth Wellbeing Project presentations and programs. Youth Wellbeing Project also provides the Online & Physical Environment Toolkit to complement this response. Use this template as:

  • A systematic planning tool that outlines crucial steps when implementing a new tool, strategy, or program. Use the far-right column to identify measures and responsibilities for implementation, how, and by whom.
  • A checklist to guide the successful implementation of a new tool/strategy/program to address problematic sexual behaviours and related topics.
  • A checklist to evaluate/review tools/strategies/programs used in the last year. Collect the data to make an informed decision by identifying gaps, successes and opportunities for improvement or replacement.

Schools and child- or youth-focused organisations can use this toolkit for something as simple as deciding on a guest speaker through to the decision to implement a new wellbeing or safeguarding program that integrates across the whole organisation.
